The Los Angeles Lakers were eliminated from playoff contention last night. Many in NBA circles are questioning the future for the underwhelming roster.

LeBron James may have added to the confusion surrounding the team today when a quote surfaced from the latest episode of HBO’s “The Shop.”

“In today’s game? S***, there’s some motherf***ers in today’s game, but Steph Curry. Steph Curry is the one that I would want to play with, for sure, in today’s game … Right now it’s Steph.

“I love everything about that guy. Lethal. When he gets out of his car you’d better guard him right from the moment he pulls up to the arena. As soon as he gets out of his car, you better guard his ass. You might want to guard him when he gets out of bed. I swear to God.”

Russell Westbrook, who has received the brunt of the criticism for the Lakers’ struggles, may feel he is on the hot seat. His precarious position may have just been worsened by the comment from James about a different star point guard.

James has long been a fan of Steph Curry, so the quote doesn’t come as a surprise beyond the unfortunate timing. James selected Curry early in each of the past two All-Star game drafts. In those appearances, the two showed on-court chemistry.

More than anything, this quote could be a hint that LeBron James hopes to move on from his stint in Los Angeles. The star has said that he plans to team up with his son LeBron “Bronny” James Jr. should he enter the 2024 NBA Draft.

LeBron has one year left on his current contract, so even if he stays in LA this coming season, he would have to wait another season before his son would (potentially) enter the NBA.

Should LeBron James stick it out another year in Los Angeles, we will certainly see a competitive sweepstakes for him in free agency in 2023. LeBron’s praise for Steph Curry may have shown that the Warriors could have a leg up.
