The Los Angeles Lakers were finally put out of their misery on Tuesday after their loss to the Phoenix Suns. LeBron James and company will officially play no part in this year’s NBA post-season. Yet the Lakers superstar being the draw that he is, will still find ways to draw attention.

On this occasion it didn’t take very long for James to re-enter the news cycle. The morning after the Lakers season was all but ended – a clip from James’ HBO show ‘The Shop’ was released as a teaser for their upcoming episode. And it sent social media buzzing.

When asked to the name the player he would most want to play with – James didn’t hesitate in naming Stephen Curry at the top of his list.

‘In today’s game? Steph Curry is the one that I would want to play with, for sure. Right now, it’s Steph,’ James said.

Well conveniently, on the same day Curry was made aware of these comments during an interview with 95.7 The Game. Live on the air, Curry was put on the spot for a reaction to James’ glowing words.

Whilst clearly flattered by who Curry described as ‘one of the greatest of all-time’, singing his praises. He was swift to shut down the idea of the two superstars ever teaming up beyond an All-Star game.

‘He got his wish, as a captain he’s picked me the last two All-Star games,’ said Curry. ‘So, I don’t know if that suffices, but I’m good right now.’

With the Warriors soon to embark on what he hopes to be a lengthy playoff run. Stephen Curry was perhaps wise to downplay LeBron James’ comments. Though for a brief afternoon we were all able to bask in the imagination of what this pairing might look like.

Curry and James are of course long-time rivals, having faced off in four consecutive NBA finals. The rare opportunity of seeing them share the court as teammates, resulted in Curry knocking down a record 16-threes to capture this year’s All-Star Game MVP. Whilst James drained home a walk-off game-winner on the same night.

Though alas, as Stephen Curry acknowledged in his interview – the pairing of these two superstars will likely only ever be a fantasy. Curry added: ‘Whenever you get the interest or curiosity of what it would be like to play with an MVP-caliber dude like he is, it’s amazing. We all can live in that fantasy world though.’
