The Houston Rockets have lost a lot of games this season, which was expected. They have the fewest wins in the NBA with 20 and are likely going to have the best odds at landing the No. 1 overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft.

But, for a team in the position of the Rockets, wins and losses aren’t overly important. What matters to them is the development of their younger players. Losing can be frustrating, but their youth is gaining valuable experience and playing time that will benefit them in the long run.

One of the young players they have high expectations for is Jalen Green. The No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft has star potential but struggled coming out of the gates during his rookie season. But, like many young players, he has found his footing later in the season and has produced some monster numbers.

Since the All-Star break, Green has been a consistent source of scoring for the Houston Rockets. He is averaging 21.5 points per game and doing it efficiently, shooting 47.3 percent overall from the field and making 39.5 percent of his 3-point attempts.

Green has been showing out recently, as he is in the midst of one of the best scoring stretches for a rookie in NBA history. He has scored at least 30 points in four consecutive games, the first rookie to do so since Allen Iverson, 25 years ago. The only other player to accomplish that feat as a rookie in the last 31 years is Michael Jordan.

There have been some incredible rookie seasons in the NBA in recent years, but Green has joined an exclusive club with his scoring output in recent games. During this stretch, he is averaging 31.5 points per game and making 43.1 percent of his 3-point attempts.

He is taking full advantage of teams having to respect his perimeter game, as he is scoring from every level of the offense. He is attacking the basket more as well, drawing fouls and averaging more than six free throws per game. Green takes full advantage, knocking down over 83 percent of his free throws during this stretch, pushing his season number over the 80 percent mark.

Green’s confidence has been growing throughout the season. Some lineup tweaks and better health have benefitted him, as Green is ending his rookie campaign on a high note. The Houston Rockets have to be ecstatic about that, as he is looking like the face of the franchise they had hoped he would be.
