The Boston Celtics have been one of the hottest teams in the NBA since getting off to a slow start to the season. A key part of that success has been the elite execution of their defense, in which Robert Williams III has been an integral element.
Williams III, who recently underwent meniscus surgery, spoke to reporters for the first time since the operation on Saturday. He explained how it was “a good surgery” and the outcome was the “best-case scenario” as the playoffs near.
“Because they told me that it was a good surgery,” Williams said when asked why it was the best-case scenario. “Everything went as well as we wanted it, as well as it could go, and their observation is that I can be back in that time frame.
“Just gotta take our time, make sure it’s the right plan, make sure I’m healthy. This organization obviously cares about me long-term more than anything. So just making sure it’s the right plan and I’m ready to go.”

While the start of the playoffs is near, Williams III isn’t worried about getting back into the swing of things when it’s time for him to take the court again. While nothing compares to the live speed of an NBA game, let alone the playoffs, he remains confident.
“I mean, nah. S—, not on my part,” he said with a laugh. “I mean, obviously, there’s nothing that can compare to playing in an NBA game or obviously the playoffs, but just gotta get out there. Like riding a bike again. Get out there, get my wind under me, and I feel like I should be good, obviously, with the help of my teammates picking me up.”

The original timetable for Robert Williams III’s potential return was originally 4-to-6 weeks, which could result in him missing the Boston Celtics’ start of the first round of the 2022 NBA playoffs. In the meantime, Grant Williams is expected to start alongside Al Horford.
