Utilize Joe Ingles Trade Exception To Add Key Secondary Piece

At the trade deadline this season, the Utah Jazz were pretty quiet and they did not add a big name player to help them with their potential playoff run, but they did move veteran Joe Ingles and Elijah Hughes for Nickeil Alexander-Walker and Juancho Hernangomez after Ingles he suffered a torn ACL in his left knee.

By making this trade, the Jazz created a $9.7 million traded player exception for themselves that can be utilized in the offseason.

While this TPE cannot land the Jazz another All-Star or max-contract player, Utah can definitely be aggressive in their pursuit for more talent with this exception.

With Rudy Gay holding a minimal role for this team after signing with them in the offseason, it is very clear to see that the Jazz need to find ways to add more secondary talent to their bench.

LATEST NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: It’s Rapidly Nearing Time For Utah Jazz To Blow Up Roster

Outside of Jordan Clarkson, the Jazz do not really have any consistent scoring threats to turn to in their second-unit and while Hassan Whiteside has not been bad as a back-up behind Rudy Gobert, Clarkson has accounted for close to 50% of Utah’s total bench production this season.

Finding another reliable scorer that they could possibly trade for using this TPE will be essential for the Jazz and there are quite a few players whose contracts would fit into this $8.7 million exception.

Kemba Walker, Cedi Osman, Coby White, Justin Holiday and Jeff Green are just a few players who could end up being on the move in the offseason, all of which could add depth to Utah’s bench.

While they would probably love the idea of adding another All-Star to pair with Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert, the Utah Jazz should be more than happy to utilize their trade exception on a key secondary talent that can provide more consistency and stability than half of their roster this season.
