Does this trade make sense for the Detroit Pistons?
Expect the Detroit Pistons to be one of the busiest rebuilding franchises this offseason.
The Pistons are on the cusp of finding something great long-term with Cade Cunningham paving the way to success, which is why they will be aggressive in their search for key secondary talents and primary scorers around him.
Julius Randle could definitely check off the boxes for what the Pistons are looking for, but being tied down to his contract long-term is not necessarily favorable for them.
With all of the criticism his play has drawn this season, Randle is going to be a big risk for the Pistons to potentially invest in, which is why this trade is not the best they can do in the offseason.

There is definitely value to be had here, but the Detroit Pistons will receive various offers for Jerami Grant in the offseason, some of which will be better than this one with the New York Knicks.
