Dallas Mavericks Receive: F Jerami Grant, MEM/WAS 2024 2nd Round Pick (More Favorable, via DET)
Detroit Pistons Receive: F Davis Bertans, G/F Josh Green, DAL 2022 1st Round Pick (Rights To)
The Detroit Pistons are a rebuilding franchise right now and while Jerami Grant is their best player, they run the risk of losing him following the 2022-23 season in free agency, as Grant is entering the final year of his contract this upcoming offseason.
Since joining the Pistons, Grant has averaged 21.0 points, 4.4 rebounds, 2.6 assists and has shot 35.3% from three-point range, proving that he is much more than just a “3-and-D” player on the wing like he was utilized as in Denver and Oklahoma City.
At the trade deadline, the Pistons were searching for a young talent on a rookie contract that was ready to play upon arrival, as well as a first-round pick within the next two to three years, a source told NBA Analysis Network.
While this price tag on Jerami Grant may still be relevant, many teams around the league expect the price for Grant to fall around the time of the 2022 NBA Draft, especially with the Detroit Pistons looking to add a handful of young prospects to their core around Cade Cunningham and Saddiq Bey.

There is a high chance that Jerami Grant could be traded this upcoming offseason and on draft night, the Dallas Mavericks could offer Davis Bertans, Josh Green and the rights to their first-round pick for Jerami Grant and a future second-round pick.
Bertans does not present much upside to a rebuilding team like Detroit, especially since he is owed $49 million through the 2024-25 season, but he has shot 39.7% from deep for his career and bringing in two young assets in Josh Green and the Mavericks’ first-round pick could weigh out Bertans’ contract in this deal.

Josh Green presents a handful of upside for the Pistons given his potential on both ends of the floor. He has not played much in Dallas, but through two seasons in the league, Green has proven that he can hold his own in his team’s second-unit.
Adding another key scoring weapon in the offseason will be key for the Mavericks and with them being a defensive-focused team, it would make sense to add a two-way talent on the wing.
Jerami Grant is the perfect addition for this team not only because he has emerged as a 20-plus point per night scorer, but because his role with the Mavericks would not really change from what it is now with the Detroit Pistons, which will please Grant.

Obviously he would be Luka Doncic’s “understudy” in a way, but Jerami Grant would still get plenty of looks over the course of a game and he would be Dallas’ No. 2 scoring option.
Getting out of Davis Bertans’ contract and leveraging some young assets for a proven talent like Jerami Grant has a ton of benefits for a Dallas Mavericks franchise that is looking to take the next step from a playoff team to a real title contending threat.
