Extend Marvin Bagley III On A Favorable Two-Year Deal
Building off the idea of adding frontcourt depth in free agency, it makes the most sense for the Pistons to keep Marvin Bagley III on a new long-term deal.
At the trade deadline this season, the Pistons traded Trey Lyles and Josh Jackson in a four-team, seven player trade that landed them Marvin Bagley from the Sacramento Kings.
Since coming over from the Kings, Bagley has been a stellar addition to the Pistons’ frontcourt, averaging 13.7 points, 7.1 rebounds, 1.2 assists and shooting 54.2% from the floor. Bagley has also started in 5 of the 13 games he has played in for the Pistons this season.
While he is not the best free agent available, the Pistons do seem like a comfortable home for Marvin Bagley III, especially since he and Isaiah Stewart have been building a strong connection with one another in the frontcourt on the offensive and defensive glass.

Set to become a restricted free agent, the Pistons will be able to match any offer given to Marvin Bagley III in free agency this upcoming offseason and interest in him may ultimately be low, driving his price down a little bit for Detroit.
Bagley is not going to cost the Pistons a lot of long-term money to retain, they have plenty of cap space to navigate a new contract with the young power-forward and they have an obvious need in their frontcourt right now, which is why keeping Marvin Bagley long-term makes the most sense.
