Why Trading For Beal Does Not Make Sense For The Heat

In NBA 2K, turning the salary cap off gives anyone the chance to build their “dream team” in the NBA with no financial restrictions.

In the NBA, teams are not able to just click and turn off the salary cap, as money is a very real thing in this league. The salary cap and tax line is expected to rise moving forward, but this still may not allow the Heat to pursue another max-level player like Bradley Beal.

Let’s say Beal was to receive a five-year, $240 million extension from the Washington Wizards in the offseason.

In this scenario alone, it is hard to see how the Heat could make this deal their reality without giving up any of their All-Star talents simply because Beal’s annual average value on a five-year, $240 million deal would be $48 million, which is about 40% of the 2021-22 season’s salary cap.

In theory money-wise, the Heat could make this trade work by giving up Kyle Lowry and Duncan Robinson, but Miami does not want to give up any of their three All-Stars.

If we look at this scenario from another angle, the Heat could potentially give up P.J. Tucker, Duncan Robinson and Tyler Herro, as Herro is set to receive a big-time contract extension in the offseason, but even then Miami would still not meet the threshold monetarily to be able to bring in Beal on a new five-year, $240 million max deal.

Because of how trading for Beal would hurt their overall depth and tear apart what they have built over the last few seasons, the Heat should try to stay away from the scenario of trading for Washington’s All-Star.

A sign-and-trade at a cheaper price is possible, but it is nearly impossible for the Heat to do a sign-and-trade involving Beal on a new five-year, $240 million deal, which is why trading for Bradley Beal would not make much sense.
