With just 13 games remaining on their schedule, the Los Angeles Lakers are in big trouble this NBA season. 

Entering the year with championship aspirations and picked by many to represent the Western Conference in the NBA Finals, the Lakers find themselves just 29-40, the 9-seed in the West and just one full game up on the Pelicans in the standings. 

As crazy as it sounds, the Lakers could wind up falling out of the play-in tournament and miss the entire playoff field! 

Everything that could have gone wrong for Los Angeles this season has and with Russell Westbrook not fitting in whatsoever, his $40 million-plus contract is now “dead weight” in a sense.

Heading into the offseason, the Lakers will be needing to make some major changes not only to their front-office and coaching staff, but to their roster as well. 

Trading Westbrook is definitely on the list of potential things to do for GM Rob Pelinka, but the team should also consider trading Talen Horton-Tucker, who was recently given a three-year, $30.7 million deal by Los Angeles. 

While he has not been the root of their problems, Talen Horton-Tucker does not fit into the Lakers’ “win-now” mindset in terms of contending for championships and the $10.2 million he is owed next season is crippling to the Lakers’ chances of adding the talent they need in the offseason. 

Finding any team to make a trade with in the offseason will be difficult for the Lakers, but seeing as Horton-Tucker is only 21-years-old, a young, rebuilding team like the Thunder could be interested in taking on his contract, especially since they have the cap room.
