Trae Young and the Atlanta Hawks (34-35) took on LaMelo Ball and the Charlotte Hornets (35-35) in part of the Wednesday NBA slate. The Hornets came out on top with 116-106 being the final score.
The Hawks held a four-point lead at halftime but were outscored by a 15-point margin in the second half. LaMelo Ball finished with 22 points, eight rebounds, and 11 assists.
The Hornets received double-figure scoring performances from Montrezl Harrell (20), Terry Rozier (18), Miles Bridges (18), PJ Washington.(16), and Mason Plumlee (12) in this one.
Trae Young was limited to just eight points on a horrendous 3-12 FG (25.0 percent) and 0-6 3P in this game. He had five teammates score in double-figures with De’Andre Hunter (21), Clint Capela (17), and Kevin Huerter (16) all exceeding the 15-point threshold.

Both of these teams are at the bottom of the Eastern Conference play-in seeding with the Atlanta Hawks previously holding a half-game lead over the Charlotte Hornets entering this game. Now, it’s the Hornets who hold a half-game lead.
Trae Young entered this game having recorded consecutive 40-point games, so it was bizarre to see him have such a poor outing in this one against a bad defensive team.
