With the NBA regular season winding down, there are already some teams laying the groundwork for their game plans in the offseason. This year’s offseason could be quieter than recent ones when it comes to free agency movement because there are only a handful of teams projected to have cap space.

Without much money to hand out, free agents may meet colder than anticipated markets. Trades could be prevalent as it could be the only way that some teams can make upgrades to their roster.

The lack of teams with cap space is bad news for some players that were hoping to cash in this offseason. Veterans such as Bradley Beal, Kyrie Irving, James Harden and Zach LaVine, who have player options but are expected to decline them, will land max contracts. But, projecting how much others in this free-agent class will make is difficult.

This is a relatively weak free-agent class, but some restricted free agents could be in for a raise. The 2018 NBA Draft class signed deals that totaled the most money ever for a single class in rookie extensions.
