Source: Warriors Optimistic About Curry’s Return For Playoffs

Stephen Curry, Golden State Warriors, NBA Rumors

In the last three NBA seasons, the All-Star trio of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green has only played a total of 11 minutes together due to numerous injuries. As one superstar gets healthy for the Golden State Warriors, another winds up getting injured and this is now the case with Steph Curry, as the two-time MVP suffered a left foot injury in Wednesday night’s loss to the Boston Celtics.

In the second quarter of Wednesday night’s game, Curry suffered a lower left leg injury that was later revealed to be a sprained ligament in his left foot. The injury occurred when Celtics’ Marcus Smart collided with Steph Curry’s left leg on a loose ball.

While he initially tried to walk this injury off and stay in the game, the Warriors’ coaching staff and training staff took Curry out of the game immediately and went hobbling back to the locker room. Steph Curry was then ruled out for the rest of the game at halftime, as he underwent an MRI on his injured left foot Wednesday night.

Just getting Draymond Green back from a back/calf injury that had kept him sidelined for nearly nine-and-a-half weeks, the Warriors will now have to finish the regular season without Steph Curry, their top-scorer and one of the league’s best offensive talents.

LATEST NBA NEWS & RUMORS: Warriors Lose Curry To “Dangerous Play” From Celtics’ Smart

According to the Warriors, there is no structural damage in Curry’s injured left foot and while the MRI did reveal a ligament sprain, the Warriors are optimistic that Steph Curry will be back in time for the start of the playoffs, a source close within the organization told NBA Analysis Network.

The first-round of the playoffs are set to begin on April 16, putting Steph Curry on a tight four week recovery window to avoid missing any playoff action.

The Warriors’ star point guard will be seeing specialists soon for further evaluation of his injury, according to ESPN, but all signs point to the fact that Curry has avoided a serious injury, which is the best news Golden State could receive heading towards the playoffs.

Currently one game back from the Memphis Grizzlies for the 2-seed in the Western Conference, the Warriors will absolutely be competitive without their leader in the backcourt, but seeding and positioning does not seem to be something they are worried about.

Following his first game back from injury the other night, Draymond Green offered his thoughts on where the Warriors sit in the standings, claiming that they will win a championship no matter where they are seeded.

“Obviously the two seed will be great, but we’re not chasing it,” Draymond said. “We’re going to make sure we do everything we can to stay healthy coming down the stretch, not going to make any boneheaded decisions trying to chase the two seed. Whether we’re two seed or three seed, we’re going to win a championship, so it don’t really matter.”

Eight of the Warriors’ final twelve games to finish the regular season are on the road, but just four of these games are against teams currently above .500 on the year.

Jordan Poole has been having an incredible third season for Golden State and will continue to be a focal point offensively next to Klay Thompson, Draymond Green and Andrew Wiggins with Steph Curry sidelined.

LATEST NBA NEWS: Warriors Lose Curry To “Dangerous Play” From Celtics’ Smart

While Curry’s injury definitely comes at an inopportune time, the Warriors are well-equipped to finish the regular season strong and while he could miss a game or two during the first-round of the playoffs, the Warriors are not too concerned about this being a long-term injury that will negatively affect their chances to contend for a title this season.
