Does this trade make sense for the Dallas Mavericks?

If the Dallas Mavericks can acquire Julius Randle for a bench player and an overpaid secondary talent, then they should absolutely pull the trigger on this deal.

However, Julius Randle is not necessarily the right kind of player to put next to Luka Doncic on this team simply because he is a ball-dominant big man.

Julius Randle does not move around on the perimeter and is not a traditional big man that sits in the paint/low-post area waiting for post-up opportunities.

He can play in the low-post, but the reason Randle was an All-Star last year was because of his ability to attack from perimeter to paint against smaller, weaker defenders.

Driving to the rim and scoring in the paint is what Julius Randle thrives at and this is something he would not be able to do with Luka Doncic running the show in Dallas.

They are not the same player by any means, but Doncic and Randle are similar in the fact that they both control their team’s offenses and need to have the ball in their hands to be effective.

This trade really would not help the Mavericks, but at this price, it is hard for them to want to pass up this opportunity should it be presented to them.
