The Phoenix Suns throttled the Los Angeles Lakers during the NBA Sunday slate, blowing them out 140-111. The game was over before the horn sounded to signal the end of the first quarter as the Suns led by 26 after the quarter.
The largest lead that Phoenix held in the game was 36 points, as they are piling on what has already been a tough season for the Lakers.
A lot of their struggles can be drawn back to the 2021 postseason when the Suns eliminated the Lakers in the first round of the playoffs.
It was a competitive series between the teams as the Lakers plummeted down the standings after having to overcome injuries to LeBron James and Anthony Davis. James was battling an ankle injury, which hampered his performance. The last blow to the Lakers was Davis injuring his groin.

Before Sunday’s game, Davis was asked about the groin injury that he sustained and provided a hot take. He believes had he been healthy, the Lakers would have won that series and it is something everyone, including the Phoenix Suns, know would have occurred.
Phoenix ultimately defeated the Lakers in that series and advanced all the way to the NBA Finals where they were defeated by the Milwaukee Bucks in six games. It was a 29-point blowout on Sunday evening but had the Suns known about that quote before the game, they could have really poured it on at certain points in the game.
Devin Booker, who scored 30 points to go along with 10 assists, two rebounds and four steals in only 32 minutes, had more comments following the game about what Davis said.
Davis would seem to be in the camp of people who believe the Phoenix Suns’ success last season was a fluke and that they got lucky facing teams that weren’t at full strength throughout the postseason. While they caught some breaks, they had to overcome some adversities of their own on the way to the NBA Finals.

Their performance this season, as they have the best record in the NBA at 54-14, you would think would put all the talk about them being flukes to rest. But, it is something that Davis has certainly not forgotten, as that loss in the first round set off a round of moves that have put the Los Angeles Lakers in the awful position they are currently stuck in.
