Ja Morant and the Memphis Grizzlies (47-22) took on Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the Oklahoma City Thunder (20-47) in part of the NBA Sunday slate. It was the Grizzlies who came out on top vs the Thunder with 125-118 being the final score.

The Grizzlies came out of this gate hot with 38 points in the first quarter. They controlled the momentum of the game for much of it. The Thunder trailed by as many as 18 points at one point and scored 39 points in the third quarter to ultimately make the final score closer.

The point guard matchup of Ja Morant and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was the clear-cut top storyline to follow in this game given the lack of implications on the Oklahoma City Thunder competing for a win.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander finished with an impressive 31 points, six rebounds, and seven assists while receiving 29 points from his teammate Darius Bazley.

Ja Morant had a solid game with 17 points, five rebounds, and 10 assists, but the team as a whole used a balanced scoring effort to get the job done. With Dillon Brooks back in the lineup, there were more than enough options to turn to throughout the game.

Coming off a comeback 118-114 win over the New York Knicks with Ja Morant recording 37 points and eight rebounds to set the tone. He’s been having an All-NBA First-Team caliber season and will look to continue that.

The Memphis Grizzlies sought to maintain their standing as the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference by not experiencing a letdown loss against a losing team. They took care of business in this one.

It has become a brutal recent stretch for the Thunder as their injury report has become as long as a CVS pharmacy receipt. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is doing his best to keep them afloat in the short term as they ultimately are playing for the 2022 NBA Draft.
