The Miami Heat has faced plenty of adversity this NBA season but nothing has slowed them down. Despite numerous injuries and players being away from the team, they have been able to consistently win games no matter who is available to play.

Erik Spoelstra has done a masterful job once again, proving why he is one of the best head coaches in the NBA. Part of finding sustained success in the league is having great players and the Heat certainly have a lot of those.

One of their best players this season has been Tyler Herro. After bursting onto the scene as a rookie and in the Orlando Bubble, he had a bit of a sophomore slump. But, knowing the potential that he possessed, the Heat would not include him in any trades.

In Year 3, he has blossomed. He is the odds on favorite to take home the Sixth Man of the Year award, averaging 20.8 points, 4.8 rebounds and four assists per game off the bench. There is a chance that Herro could take his game to another level and turn into an All-Star, but having a super sixth man certainly has its perks as well.

Alas, Miami could run into a problem shortly. Herro is eligible for his rookie extension this offseason and based on his production, he could cash in on a monster contract. Even the most skeptical of outlooks, such as Herro being nothing more than a top-tier bench option, can be expensive.

If you believe he is capable of being more, his price tag will grow even more. Based on the contract numbers that Bleacher Report has provided from players recently signed, Herro’s price range would seem to be $85 million up to a max of $184 million. But, some believe Herro could be used as the centerpiece of a blockbuster deal should an All-Star player become available.

“Miami has clearly come to highly value Herro and was resistant to moving him to Toronto for Lowry last year, sources said. Yet league insiders maintain the Miami Heat would sacrifice Herro’s promising ceiling for a chance to land the right superior talent.”

Miami has never been shy about making big trades if they feel it will put them in a better position to win a championship. While they certainly like what Herro brings to the team, they may find it difficult to turn down a deal that includes Herro if it results in them landing an All-Star such as Bradley Beal or Jaylen Brown.

While Tyler Herro is a great player in his own right, he doesn’t seem to have the ceiling that both of those players already have reached or possess.
