The Miami Heat have laid the groundwork for one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference over the last few NBA offseason periods. Recently, they’ve had to pay players who were previously on value contracts like Duncan Robinson last summer, who signed a five-year, $90 million contract.

Next up, the Heat will have to get a contract extension done with Tyler Herro, who will soon be coming off his rookie deal. Given his standing as the front-runner for the Sixth Man of the Year award with averages of 20.7 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 3.9 assists, it’s clear he is due for a substantial raise.

The question is, just how much is Tyler Herro expected to command on his next contract? According to Bleacher Report’s Jake Fischer, there is a belief among several rival executives and agents that Herro’s next deal could approach the five-year, $184 million maximum thresholds.

“Some rival executives and agents polled by B/R believe Herro’s next deal may approach his five-year, $184 million maximum,” Fischer wrote. “Others have pointed more toward Jaylen Brown’s recent structure of a four-year, $106 million deal.”

Fischer also noted that among combo guards, a barometer that could potentially be used is the deals that Fred VanVleet and Lonzo Ball have recently received; four-year, $85 million. Meanwhile, other guards of this archetype, Jalen Brunson and Collin Sexton will seek salaries “north of $20 million.”

“For context, Fred VanVleet and Lonzo Ball’s recent four-year, $85 million contracts have set a clear benchmark in the market, where this summer combo guards such as Jalen Brunson and Collin Sexton are said to be seeking salaries north of $20 million.”

The Miami Heat may have to pay luxury tax or be willing to part with some players like Duncan Robinson or PJ Tucker if they end up having to pay Tyler Herro such a substantial amount on his next contract. It will certainly be something to track after they play out a successful season that features them currently sitting atop the Eastern Conference standings.
