Christian Wood, PJ Washington Among Heat Trade Targets

Miami Heat, NBA Rumors

The Miami Heat have been among the best teams in the NBA throughout the 2021-22 season. They are currently atop the Eastern Conference with a record of 44-23. They are two games ahead of the second-place Milwaukee Bucks as the road to the NBA Finals could go through South Beach.

While the Heat has a great chance of competing for a title this season, they are always on the lookout to upgrade the roster. Pat Riley is not one to stand pat and if the opportunity arises to swing a big deal, he will pull the trigger.

“They are the best in the league at lining up for a big move,” a Western Conference executive added, in reference to the Heat, and that executive is right. The Heat have never been shy about adding All-Stars and are always keeping their options open.

One of the dream targets for the team this offseason is likely Bradley Beal of the Washington Wizards. Beal has not indicated that he wants to leave Washington, but should he look to move on this offseason, there will be plenty of teams lining up for him other than the Heat.

Should Plan A not be feasible, they always have a Plan B and C ready to go. According to Bleacher Report, one of those backup plans could involve moving Duncan Robinson. Adding to the frontcourt alongside Bam Adebayo would be the goal, as PJ Washington and Christian Wood were two potential targets mentioned.

Robinson signed a record-setting deal for an undrafted free agent when he agreed to a five-year, $90 million deal. But, when you combine his regression as a 3-point shooter with the emergence of players such as Gabe Vincent and Max Strus, it makes sense that the Heat would look to move Robinson.

In addition to having the depth to overcome trading Robinson, it would also help Miami save a ton of money. If they trade Duncan Robinson, it would present them a chance to avoid the luxury tax during the 2022-23 season.

That is something Miami has been very good at dancing around. They have paid the luxury tax only once since the 2013-14 season and would like to avoid doing so again next season if possible. For now, PJ Washington and Christian Wood could be names to watch.
