Tyreke Evans Could Make NBA Comeback With Warriors?

Tyreke Evans, Golden State Warriors, NBA Rumors

It has been nearly three years since we last saw Tyreke Evans on an NBA court. He was a key cog in the Indiana Pacers rotation, coming off the bench and doing all that he could to help the team avoid a sweep at the hands of the Boston Celtics during the 2019 NBA playoffs.

Evans ended that series on a high note, scoring at least 13 points in the final three games, including a 21-point performance trying to help the Pacers stave off elimination. Unfortunately, the Pacers were swept in four games and that was the last time we saw Evans as he was suspended indefinitely by the league.

Evans violated the league’s drug policy and his suspension was handed down on May 17th, 2019. He was officially reinstated in February, and given how many players were in and out of lineups because of COVID-19, the chances of him latching on with a team increased exponentially.

While he hadn’t found a team to join yet, that could be changing in the coming days. According to Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium, Evans is meeting and working out for the Golden State Warriors later this week.

In addition to the Golden State Warriors, Tyreke Evans has also met with the Milwaukee Bucks.

While Evans hasn’t been in the NBA in some time, he is the latest veteran that is looking to get back into the league. We have seen Lance Stephenson latch back on with the Indiana Pacers and Monta Ellis was also attempting a comeback. Isaiah Thomas recently signed another 10-day deal, this time with the Charlotte Hornets.

Getting looked at by contending teams is certainly a positive thing for Evans. He has the size and length to be a solid defender with the ability to defend both backcourt positions and some players on the wing.

Evans struggled as a 3-point shooter earlier in his career but was certainly improving in recent seasons. He made at least 35.6 percent of his 3-point attempts each of the last four seasons that he played, so there is some 3-and-D potential there.

Playmaking is another strong suit of Evans as well. There would certainly be a chance for him to carve out a role on the Warriors’ second unit as a lead facilitator that can also provide a scoring punch.

If Tyreke Evans can earn a spot on the Golden State Warriors, he could set himself up for another opportunity next season if he plays well and stays on track following a nearly three-year suspension.
