3. Balance Out The Roster
The biggest thing holding the New York Knicks back right now is their lack of a point guard. They shrink in late-game situations because they do not have someone that can get the team organized in a timely manner and the sets they are running are poorly executed.
A lot of those issues would disappear if they had a true point guard to handle the ball. Alec Burks and Immanuel Quickley have had their moments, but they are playing out of position as point guards. The injury to Derrick Rose and Kemba Walker being ineffective derailed their plan at the point guard position.
While they are lacking there, the Knicks do have some depth in the frontcourt. Fans have been clamoring for Obi Toppin to receive more playing time behind Julius Randle. As we’ve seen in recent games with Toppin sidelined, Cam Reddish and RJ Barrett can even slide to power forward in some situations.
Trading Randle will open up more minutes for all of those players in the frontcourt and help balance out the roster, especially if he is traded for a point guard. A rumored deal with the Sacramento Kings centered around De’Aaron Fox was one that would have worked for both sides.

Fox has his flaws but would fill a huge need for New York in the backcourt. A flawed point guard is certainly easier to work around than a flawed power forward, especially when that power forward is your best player as Randle is with the Knicks.
