Donovan Mitchell and the Utah Jazz (40-23) will travel to the American Airlines Center to take on Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks (39-25) as both teams look to solidify their outlook for the fourth seed in the Western Conference standings with a win. This will arguably be the NBA’s top matchup on Monday.

Recently, the Mavericks and Jazz faced off in what ended as a 114-109 win for Utah. There was a clear effort from the Jazz to stay home on shooters to take away passing opportunities for Luka Doncic. They trusted Rudy Gobert on switches and also have him take away the roll in ball screen situations. However, some uncalled foul calls on those Gobert defensive possessions in clutch time caused controversy.

Doncic missed the Mavericks’ last game in what ended up being a 114-113 win over the Sacramento Kings with Spencer Dinwiddie making his first start in Dallas, who finished with 36 points and seven assists. There was a clear focus to attack Domantas Sabonis out in space and it worked over and over.

Jalen Brunson chipped in an impressive 23 points and six assists against the Kings, but it was Dorian Finney-Smith who made a game-winning corner-three along with five other makes from deep. Brunson finds himself as being questionable entering this matchup. If he can’t play, seeing if the Mavericks end up starting Dinwiddie next to Doncic will be interesting given the Jazz defense’s focus on keying in on him last matchup.
