Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors (43-21 traveled to crypto.com Arena to take on LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers (28-35) during NBA Saturday night. It was “King James” who came out on top—leading L.A. to a 124-116 victory.

Perhaps the biggest storyline in the NBA this season has been the disappointment that is the Los Angeles Lakers. Despite still receiving brilliant play from LeBron James, the Russell Westbrook trade and Anthony Davis’ lack of durability have ultimately been the team’s demise. Avoiding another loss helps to quiet the noise.

The Warriors have sorely struggled as of late and it’s now caused them to drop to third in the Western Conference standings. Entering this game, Golden State had gone 3-7 in their last 10 games and were coming off a 122-113 loss to the Dallas Mavericks that featured Stephen Curry not taking a single shot attempt in the fourth quarter for the first time in his NBA career.

Curry did his best to lead the Warriors to a win as he finished with an efficient 30 points. Jordan Poole chipped in 23 points off the bench along with Jonathan Kuminga’s 18. However, Klay Thompson’s dud of a seven-point outing was too much to overcome given LeBron James dropped a staggering 56 points for the Lakers.

For the Lakers, getting a win to avoid what previously was an ongoing slide to the final play-in spot in the Western Conference standings was the goal. Los Angeles will need to build on this win to avoid getting surpassed by the New Orleans Pelicans down the line.
