It’s difficult to find a better co-star out there in the NBA for a point guard than Kevin Durant. The way teams have to load up on him on defense makes things easier for everyone around him, so why leave?
Not having James Harden in the offense and swapping him out with Ben Simmons will require the Nets to feature Irving often alongside Durant. As a result, he will be able to play the co-star role he signed up for.
There are some concerns with the supporting cast that Brooklyn has when considered the limitations in perimeter shooting and interior defense. It can be challenging to fill out a supporting cast with three star salaries.

The main drawback for Irving would be if the Nets organization were to continue to hesitate with being long-term partners on a contract extension he desires. If they aren’t willing to give him a deal he seeks, looking elsewhere certainly becomes more appealing.
