Just Play Small-Ball With LeBron James As The Center
LeBron James has played the center position quite a bit for the Lakers this season and it has been successful most of the time since more shooters are surrounding him.
The Lakers have also thrown Dwight Howard into the mix recently at the center position and while he has had some good games, he has about 6-7 bad games in between where he played about 15 minutes, scores maybe 2 points, and finishes with a -10 plus-minus differential.
Maybe I am the crazy one here, but the eye test says bench Dwight Howard, limit the rotation, and simply play small-ball because you know, the Lakers have nothing to lose at this point!
The worst thing that happens in regards to playing LeBron James at center is that Los Angeles will lose games, which is nothing new compared to what is happening right now!

DeAndre Jordan gave nothing to the Lakers, which is why they waived him. Dwight Howard has given the Lakers a little more rebounding, but he is still pretty inefficient and does not do anything to impact the game for the 15-20 minutes he is on the floor.
Maybe once every handful of games Dwight Howard will come close to double-double numbers, but he is one of the most inefficient players on the Lakers’ roster this season, which is why they need to cut him out of the rotation entirely down the stretch.
LeBron James is more than capable of leading this team past weaker teams they will face the rest of the way and with Anthony Davis expected to return by the end of the season, he can easily slide into the center position when he is healthy.

Putting LeBron James at center allows the Lakers to insert either Carmelo Anthony or Stanley Johnson into the starting rotation, both of which are more than capable of doing more on the floor than Dwight Howard.
Small-ball has worked for a lot of teams in this league and while the Lakers are not a strong three-point shooting team, this system can work for them as well.
