Draymond Green Calls Out Lakers Fans For Booing LeBron

Things have gone very south for the Los Angeles Lakers this NBA season. Their front office took some big risks in the offseason, trading away key rotation pieces to acquire Russell Westbrook, creating a boom or bust roster with very little room for error. Unfortunately for the Lakers, there have been plenty of errors.

Things needed to work out perfectly for the trio of Westbrook, LeBron James, and Anthony Davis to pan out. It was an awkward fit on paper, but their goal of winning a championship was something some people thought would help overcome any shortcomings.

They look like they will fall well short of that goal. Los Angeles is currently 27-34 and in ninth place in the Western Conference. They are only 2.5 games ahead of the 11th place Portland Trail Blazers, so there is a real possibility they will not even have the chance to compete in the NBA Play-In Tournament.

It is hard to believe that less than two years ago, the Lakers were on top of the basketball world as they defeated the Miami Heat in the NBA Finals in the Orlando Bubble in 2020. That seems like a lifetime ago, and the fans are reacting as such.

Boos have been raining down at Crypto.com Arena recently as the Los Angeles Lakers have lost three in a row and seven out of their last 10 games. It is something that Golden State Warriors big man Draymond Green recently commented on, calling out the fans for their booing.

“I thought that was pathetic. I thought it was extremely pathetic, and like I said, I thought it was very distasteful from a fanbase of an organization that has the most championships in the NBA.”

He continued, “Let’s not be like spoiled brats. It’s okay to be spoiled, like ya, you can 100% be spoiled, we all get spoiled by things at times at one point in our life or another, but let’s not be brats. That was about as bratty as something I’ve seen. Considering that this team just won a championship not even a full two years ago. And now you’re booing? I thought it was utterly ridiculous.”

Fans are passionate about their team and when things aren’t going well, they will certainly let the players hear it. Ask Julius Randle about that, who earlier in the season went at New York Knicks fans at Madison Square Garden, which garnered an even more visceral response from them.

As for Draymond Green’s comments, is there a time period in which fans cannot boo players following a championship? They are paying customers and as long as things aren’t getting malicious or hurtful, they are free to express themselves however they choose, even if it’s LeBron James on the floor.
