Russell Westbrook is a member of the NBA’s 75th Anniversary Team and will go down as one of the best athletes in the history of the NBA, but his time in Los Angeles has been an absolute train wreck.
While not his fault, Westbrook’s fit with the Lakers has been one of the worst in the league this year, and the Lakers’ front office is definitely looking back to this past offseason and wondering what they could have done differently.
With LeBron James and Anthony Davis on the Lakers’ roster, two very ball-dominant players, there were major concerns and question marks about how Russell Westbrook would fit in with this team and the simple answer, which ultimately became the actual answer, is that he just does not fit in!
Now, with Russell Westbrook having a $47 million player option for the 2022-23 season, Lakers management is going to be tested this upcoming offseason.

Westbrook is most definitely going to be opting into his contract and not forgo $47 million and nobody can really blame him at this point! Maybe this is a lot of money to be paying anyone in the league, but Russell Westbrook has no reason to want to give the Lakers a “pass” on paying him, especially since there is virtually no interest in him league-wide should he become a free agent.
Moving Russell Westbrook is near impossible at this point, especially if he opts into the final year of his contract, but the Lakers could be presented with one of these three opportunities in the offseason to try and move the nine-time All-Star.
