The 2021-22 NBA season has been a major step backward for the New York Knicks compared to last year and while Kemba Walker was one of their big offseason signings, his stint in New York City seems to be coming to an end.
On Feb. 23, the Knicks and Kemba Walker mutually agreed that the four-time All-Star would sit out the remainder of the 2021-22 season, allowing him to rest up and prepare for the 2022-23 season, first reported by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
In a statement released by the Knicks, team president Leon Rose said: “We fully support Kemba’s decision to shut it down for the remainder of the season and to use this time to prepare for next season. His long-term success on the court remains our top priority.”
Kemba Walker’s triple-double on Christmas Day against the Atlanta Hawks remains one of the highlights of the season for the Knicks, but the veteran guard’s future in New York is very uncertain at this time.
