Seattle, Washington
Seattle is one of the most populated metropolitan areas in the United States and the largest media market in the nation without an NBA franchise.
The idea of building a new arena was one of the main reasons why the SuperSonics were sold and moved to Oklahoma City in 2008, but the city did recently invest $1.15 billion into the redevelopment of the Climate Pledge Arena.
With the renovation, the capacity of the arena was increased to about 17,000 people for basketball games, 15,000 for hockey games, the home of the Seattle Kraken, and about 16,000 people for concerts and events.
Seattle has a very loyal fan base and many sports fans in the Seattle area are still die-hard NBA fans. This city wants an NBA franchise back, it has the population to support a new franchise and they would not have to create any new “team” or “branding” per se since they could use the Seattle SuperSonics again.
