Alec Burks
Perhaps one of the most consistent members of the New York Knicks this season has been Alec Burks. 30-year-old wing has had a really strong offensive year with the Knicks and at times, has looked like their third option next to Randle and Barrett.
So why would the Knicks want to get rid of Burks if he is one of the only players on their roster finding success?
After this season, Alec Burks still has two more years left on his contract, only one of them being fully-guaranteed given that the final year of his contract is a team option.
At 30-years-old, Burks’ upside is very limited at this point and since he has proven to be a key secondary contributor on offense, the Knicks could get a handful of assets for him in the offseason, while also freeing up $10 million to play around with in free agency.

There will be some playoff contending teams looking to add scoring depth on the wing in the offseason and Alec Burks was drawing a fair amount of interest leading up to the trade deadline this year.
If they can get a draft pick and maybe a smaller contract contributor for Alec Burks in the offseason, it would not be surprising to see the Knicks cut ties with the veteran wing.
