Try And Trade Anthony Davis For Value Right Now
I am in no way advocating that the Lakers should give up all hope and just try and trade Anthony Davis for anything, but the idea of leveraging an injury-prone Davis right now while he is in the “prime” of his career is definitely an idea that has floated around in the Lakers’ front-office.
Since joining the Lakers ahead of the 2019-20 season, Anthony Davis has played in a total of 135 regular season games, which equates to about 67% of the team’s total regular season games since acquiring him from the Pelicans.
While it is not his fault and injuries cannot really be controlled, Davis just cannot stay healthy and it seems like that every time he comes back from one injury, something else happens.
The Lakers cannot play a game without Anthony Davis visiting the locker room at some point over the course of 48 minutes, which is why the idea of moving him definitely has to be on the table.
LATEST NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Will Lakers Cater To LeBron James’ Roster Demands In Offseason?
Los Angeles is not going to trade Anthony Davis, but being 28-years-old and an 8-time All-Star, now would be the time for the Lakers to capitalize on his value and set themselves up for future success.
The only problem though is that if the Lakers trade Davis, this will likely mean LeBron James’ time in L.A. will be done and that would basically defeat all the purpose of trading AD in the first place.
If they keep Anthony Davis, the Lakers cap space problems continue and injury concerns around the All-Star will be worse. Should they trade Davis though, LeBron James will wind up giving up on the Lakers and this franchise will be right back to where they started in terms of rebuilding when Kobe Bryant retired in 2016.
Trading Anthony Davis is a lose-lose scenario for the Los Angeles Lakers, but it is an option for them in the offseason.
