Would this trade make sense for the Los Angeles Lakers?

As mentioned, if the Los Angeles Lakers made this deal, it would be a total mess. That’s not to say it’s a bad trade, because it could really help them on the court. But from the perspective of the front office, and how fans everywhere would take it, it’s a mess.

Just two offseasons ago, the Washington Wizards traded John Wall and a pick to get Russell Westbrook. Then the Lakers traded three rotation players and the 22nd pick in the 2022 NBA Draft for Westbrook. And now, they would have to give up another first just to get back Wall.

That’s so ironic that it hurts. Rob Pelinka would be blatantly admitting that the Westbrook trade was bad and that there’s no future for him in Los Angeles. But at this point, they need to do everything possible to help LeBron James win.

Maybe getting Wall would help them do that. With some of the shots Westbrook has taken, it’s hard to imagine Wall being that much worse in that area. Plus, in his prime, Wall was an All-Defensive player. He would certainly help at least a little bit on that end.

So while this trade would definitely hurt the morale of the front office, it could end up being what’s best for the team. That being said, trading a 2027 first is risky. The whole situation is a mess, but at least the Houston Rockets are giving the Los Angeles Lakers a way out if they choose to take it.
