There has been speculation at times about the long-term future of Donovan Mitchell staying with the Utah Jazz. In today’s era of NBA stars, it’s more of a rarity to stay with one team than it is to move on at some point. What will he end up doing?

The Jazz star recently participated in an hour-long interview on the “Posted Up with Chris Haynes” podcast to discuss a wide-range of topics—including his future with the only NBA organization he’s played for.

Mitchell expressed that he’s ‘not stressed about’ and ‘not thinking about it’ since he’s focused on helping the Jazz to win games. He also expressed that he’s happy ‘right now.’

“I think I’ve reached a point where you’re happy with yourself, first off. … But as far as myself with the franchise, I see the articles, but I really address it with my teammates. I’ve seen it. I’m not too stressed about it. I’m not thinking about it. Because for me, it’s about how we can win.

“There’s going to be talk whether I say something, whether I don’t say something because that’s how I’ve always been. I’ve always been someone that’s like, ‘OK, they’re saying stuff. Let’s go ahead and lock in.’ I haven’t really thought too much about it. I’m happy right now and just continuing to find ways to win.”

One of the main issues for the Jazz is that in today’s NBA, it’s a results based business where the ultimate goal is to win a championship. If the outlook appears to be bleak to do so, stars tend to have a wandering eye and begin to formulate an exit strategy.

The simplest assurance for the Jazz in regards to Donovan Mitchell’s future with the organization would simply be to win games when it matters the most. Losing to the LA Clippers after holding a series lead after Kawhi Leonard is ruled out for the remainder of the playoffs is not going to get it done.

At some point, the Utah Jazz will need to evaluate what it is that they’re doing with roster construction if this current team continues to underachieve come playoff time. Meanwhile, teams like the New York Knicks and Miami Heat will be teams to watch as potential landing spots in the future.
