The last time the Charlotte Hornets were a playoff team in the NBA was in 2016, but this year’s team is looking to start a new era for a franchise that has not seen much success over the years.
The Hornets are currently 28-27, good for the 9-seed in the Eastern Conference at the moment, and the future is looking very bright for this group.
Along with having key veterans like Gordon Hayward, Terry Rozier and Mason Plumlee, the Hornets also have a plethora of young, dynamic talents in LaMelo Ball, Miles Bridges, Cody Martin and P.J. Washington.
Heading into the trade deadline, the Hornets could definitely look to upgrade their talent at the center position and P.J. Washington seems to be their avenue to making any significant change to their roster.

Now in his third season with Charlotte and in the league, Washington has been a steady presence off-the-bench for the Hornets and due to his athleticism, he is able to fill multiple different roles on the floor.
While his numbers have declined slightly this season compared to that of the 2020-21 season, P.J. Washington is still averaging 10.0 points, 5.4 rebounds and is shooting 39.1% from three-point range, the highest three-point shooting percentage on the team (min. 170 attempts).
The Charlotte Hornets are not actively looking to move P.J. Washington or any of their high-level, young talents at the moment, but they could be open to making a last-minute trade at the deadline should the right player become available for them.

Currently 2.5 games out from being the 6-seed in the Eastern Conference, the Hornets are still very much alive in terms of clinching a playoff spot this season. Adding a little bit more firepower to their roster, particularly in the frontcourt, could go a long way in terms of them achieving this goal.
Once again, it is unlikely that the Hornets will look to move P.J. Washington ahead of tomorrow’s deadline, but these three teams have expressed interest in the young forward and could look to make a move for him.
