Being one of the best defensive teams in the NBA this season and currently the 5-seed in the Western Conference, the Dallas Mavericks definitely look like a team on the cusp of being a true contender.
However, their inconsistent play on offense and Tim Hardaway Jr. now being out indefinitely with a fractured foot could really throw a wrench in Dallas’ plans for success heading into the second half of the season.
While he has struggled from deep this season, Tim Hardaway Jr. is one of the “go-to” scoring options on the Mavericks’ roster this season next to Luka Doncic, leaving them very short-handed right now.
Not to mention, Dallas invested $75 million into Hardaway Jr. this past offseason with a new contract, so him being out is not ideal whatsoever for this franchise. With Kristaps Porzingis also being out right now due to a bone bruise on his right knee, they really need to try and make a move to add more talent ahead of the trade deadline on Thursday.

Buddy Hield and Bogdan Bogdanovic have been mentioned as possible trade targets given the Dallas Mavericks’ need for more perimeter shooters, but Eric Gordon still remains available on the trade market.
Perimeter shooting has been a problem all year for the Mavericks, as they rank 24th in the league in three-point shooting percentage, which is why they could turn their attention to the veteran wing in Houston.
Eric Gordon is now in his 14th NBA season and while he is nearing the end of the line, he still has plenty left in the tank to give to a playoff-contending team like the Mavericks.
In 45 games this season with the Houston Rockets, Gordon has averaged 14.2 points, 3.0 assists and has shot 42.7% from long-range, the 9th best three-point shooting percentage in the league this season. Eric Gordon has been a part of multiple championship-contending teams in Houston over the years, making him a perfect trade target for the Mavericks.

Talent-wise, Gordon would fit in nicely in Dallas, but his contract is viewed as a liability. Making $58.7M through the 2023-24 season, with the final year of his contract being non-guaranteed, it is definitely a risk for any team to take a chance on the 33-year-old veteran at the trade deadline.
Is this a risk that the Dallas Mavericks should be willing to take this season given their injury situation and need for perimeter shooters? Let’s take a look at how this trade could get done.
