The Dallas Mavericks are a team that sounds like they are going to go for it this NBA season. This might be the last chance they can swing a sizable deal as Luka Doncic’s max rookie extension kicks in at the beginning of next season.
All of the moves that the Mavericks made in free agency this past offseason have not paid off as they had hoped they would. Reggie Bullock has turned things around as of late but has seen a regression in his shooting from last season with the New York Knicks.
While not his fault, Tim Hardaway Jr. is out for the remainder of the regular season, but experienced a drop in his production since signing a four-year, $75 million deal.
Dallas could look to move on from those deals, especially if they want to have a chance to re-sign impending unrestricted free agents Jalen Brunson and Dorian Finney-Smith.

A salary dump of that size is likely easier to pull off during the regular season. For now, the Mavericks will be looking to make upgrades to the roster.
The frontcourt sounds like where they will focus their efforts. Two players have had their sights on are Myles Turner of the Indiana Pacers and John Collins of the Atlanta Hawks.

For Turner, the Mavericks no longer are in pursuit of a trade to acquire him. Dallas is sold their defense is elite already and therefore they do not need to acquire an elite rim protector. His foot injury was thought to be a reason to be deterred but they already moved on. Collins is still a target.
Acquiring either player will not be easy as there will be a ton of interest in them, driving up the price. But, Mark Cuban wants a winner in Dallas and they will do whatever they can. Here is a hypothetical deal that they could choose to offer for Collins.
