Would this trade make sense for the Detroit Pistons?

The Detroit Pistons have been linked to Marvin Bagley III in various NBA trade rumors over the last few months. The success that Richaun Holmes has achieved has overlapped with the development of the No. 2 overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft.

Facing a need for a dynamic option in the frontcourt, the Pistons could afford Bagley III with no shortage of opportunities within their offense. He could serve as a key cog in their half-court ball screening actions—benefiting from the playmaking of Cade Cunningham.

Landing the Sacramento Kings’ 2022 first-round pick would be a nice asset for the Kings to acquire. Adding a pair of second round picks would be helpful, too.

Much has been made about the Pistons’ asking price in a deal that involves Grant. He’s not a superstar, he’s seeking a substantial contract extension, and he wants to land with a team that can feature him—the trade return for Grant should reflect that accordingly.

Landing Harrison Barnes as a serviceable replacement for Grant alongside Saddiq Bey on the wing would be a helpful option for the Pistons. It’s not easy for them to attract talent in free agency and Barnes can be a stopgap option to play a key role.
