3. Boston Celtics
The point guard position is one the Boston Celtics will need to address long-term. Attempting to find a long-term with Kyrie Irving and Kemba Walker, but those flamed out. It will be too challenging to retain Dennis Schroder and Marcus Smart isn’t enough of a threat offensively, either.
McCollum has primarily slotted in at the shooting guard alongside Damian Lillard in the Portland Trail Blazers’ backcourt. However, he has the playmaking skills to slide over to the point guard spot and would be a solution to the Celtics’ needs for that position.
The Trail Blazers will need to account for fielding a supporting cast around Damian Lillard and Anfernee Simons despite not being a free agency destination while also having the vibe of a team where the superstar could end up asking out eventually.
With Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown on the wing and McCollum in the backcourt, the Celtics would be able to punish the opposition’s weakest on-ball defender by attacking that matchup. It would be easy to get into situations to attack switches with so many threats, too.

The Boston Celtics have the type of talents that can help to overshadow CJ McCollum’s limitations defensively. Having his impact on offense would raise the ceiling of their group overall.
