Chicago Bulls Get Aggressive Looking For Another Guard
The Chicago Bulls have been one of the biggest surprises of the 2021-22 NBA season and with their All-Star trio of DeRozan, LaVine and Vucevic, they are absolutely contenders in the Eastern Conference.
The only problem with the Bulls right now though is the fact that injuries have dismantled their secondary talents. Lonzo Ball, Alex Caruso, Patrick Williams and Derrick Jones Jr. are all sidelined indefinitely right now, leaving Chicago’s rotations very thin and heavily reliant on their three All-Stars.
Rookie Ayo Dosunmu and third-year guard Coby White have stepped up in the backcourt in the absence of Ball and Caruso this season, but it is very possible that Chicago could turn their attention to adding another guard ahead of the deadline.
Currently one game ahead of the Miami Heat at the top of the Eastern Conference standings, the Bulls know they are good enough to contend for a title this season, but both Ball and Caruso are not expected to be back anytime before the first week of March.

Zach LaVine, DeMar DeRozan and Nikola Vucevic can only do so much for this team, which is why they are going to need all the help they can get in their second-unit. Key guards targets like De’Aaron Fox and CJ McCollum are likely out of question for the Bulls to target given their cap situation, but guards on smaller contracts like Dennis Schroder, D.J. Augustin and Cory Joseph are very much on Chicago’s radar right now.
Given that he is on a small-paying, one-year deal, Schroder could make the most sense for the Bulls, especially since the Celtics are actively looking to trade him for future value.
The Bulls do not have any trade exceptions, making any trade difficult for them financially, but the Bulls understand they need a little bit more help given their injury situation. This could lead management and ownership to be big spenders at the trade deadline and dip into the luxury taxes for the year in order to contend for a title.
