Atlanta Hawks Receive: C/F Anthony Davis, G Kendrick Nunn, C DeAndre Jordan

This trade between the Los Angeles Lakers and Atlanta Hawks likely isn’t going to happen soon, but it would certainly change each team’s outlook. Los Angeles, as long as LeBron James is in town, can still contend with this group, but it was certainly made with an eye toward the future.

The Hawks, on the other hand, are going all-in on becoming contenders in the Eastern Conference. They need to consolidate the roster and in this deal they do that, upgrading their frontcourt in a big way with Anthony Davis.

Davis is a great partner to pair with Trae Young. They would have a lot of figuring out to do in the frontcourt with John Collins, Clint Capela and Danilo Gallinari still being around, but the Hawks would be thrilled to have a player of Davis’ caliber in the fold.

Joining Davis are Kendrick Nunn and DeAndre Jordan. Both can help fill the depth on the roster that the Hawks had to surrender to make this deal.

Heading to Hollywood is a nice combination of high-upside young players and veterans to keep competitive. De’Andre Hunter was technically selected by the Lakers in 2019, but the draft pick used to select him was sent to the New Orleans Pelicans in the Davis deal and then re-routed to Atlanta.

He, along with Onyeka Okongwu, provide the Lakers with two immensely talented building blocks for the future alongside Talen Horton-Tucker. Bogdan Bogdanovic was someone the Lakers have also pursued in the past when he was with the Sacramento Kings.

How does this deal impact both teams? Let’s take a look at it from each of their perspectives, starting with the Lakers.
