Would this trade make sense for the Denver Nuggets?
Derrick White is not the elite player that Jamal Murray is but he has taking big steps over the years. The benefit of this deal is White’s fit in the office even when Murray returns. Because of this, Denver would be able to feature him in many ways.
The Spurs will likely focus on trading Thaddeus Young first. He is a veteran player that was acquired in a sign-and-trade deal. While Young would be an intriguing fit next to Nikola Jokic, in general, the Denver Nuggets already have Aaron Gordon filling a utility power forward role.
Where the Nuggets’ attention should be placed is on White, who is a capable of attacking off the catch even though his three-point shooting has struggled, can run ball screens, serve as a playmaker for his teammates, and just do a little bit of everything.
When Murray returns, White can either go into a backup role or they could be on the floor at the same time. Of course, White will need to convert at a higher clip from beyond the arc when that time comes, but his skill-set would be quite helpful overall.

The presence of a point guard would help Jokic and take some pressure off. This is the type of move they can keep Denver competitive in the Western Conference until they are able to get healthy down the stretch of the season.
