Boston Celtics

Expectations in Boston are for the Celtics to always be the best they can be and contend for a championship year-in and year-out. Currently tied with their rivals in the Los Angeles Lakers for most titles in NBA history at 17, the urge to win a championship is even greater than it usually is in Boston right now.

However, the Celtics have not looked like a championship contender this season and are struggling at 25-24 on the season. Maybe walloping the Kings by 53 points the other night finally has the team back on track, but they have yet to win more than three games in a row this season because of how inconsistent their offense is.

Other than Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, you really do not know what to expect from the rest of this Celtics’ roster and a lot of their problems are because of the erratic play in their backcourt.

Marcus Smart and Dennis Schroder are solid secondary options, but they have been thrown into primary roles to lead this backcourt after the Celtics traded away Kemba Walker in the offseason.

It is very clear that the Celtics need a primary point guard and one that they can build around next to Tatum and Brown for the foreseeable future. De’Aaron Fox is definitely someone near the top of their “wishlist” at the trade deadline this season and Boston has a means of acquiring Fox.

Not only do the Celtics own the rights to six draft picks over the next three NBA Drafts, but they have a ton of young talents in Aaron Nesmith, Payton Pritchard, Romeo Langford, Grant Williams, Bol Bol and P.J. Dozier.

Any combination of these young talents could be leveraged in trade talks leading up to the trade deadline and the Celtics could also be open to trade Marcus Smart, Dennis Schroder and/or Josh Richardson for Fox.

A trade package of Marcus Smart, Josh Richardson, Payton Pritchard/Aaron Nesmith and two first-round draft picks could definitely raise some eyebrows from the Kings.

Adding a point guard over the next year is a must for the Boston Celtics right now and if they do not add a high-level guard ahead of the trade deadline, their chances of advancing past the first-round of the playoffs this season are slim, that is if they even make the playoffs at this rate!
