Would this trade make sense for the Atlanta Hawks?

The Atlanta Hawks have turned into one of the frontrunners for Ben Simmons in recent days, along with the Sacramento Kings. This might not be a trade that sits well with fans, especially if they have to move Collins in the process.

Simmons is in the second year of a five-year, $177 million deal and that means the Hawks would have to create some cap space.

The transition to the offense would not be an issue. Simmons is not a No. 1 option and that has been shown over the years. Young would continue to be the focal point at the top of the offense and this would allow Atlanta to use Simmons in different ways. He has the size and skillset to play many positions.

Most importantly, Simmons brings an elite defender that can defend all five positions. This is an area that has held the Hawks back this season. Simmons coming to Atlanta would impact the defensive end the most. His offensive game leaves much to be desired but we have not seem him in a different role. Perhaps Simmons would produce more closer to the basket in a different role.

Atlanta would have to flip Harris and send away some pieces to have Simmons fit. Cam Reddish was already moved and they got a first-round pick out of it. This is where they would have to use that, along with others.

In the end, Simmons is a big name that could be paired with Young. If this is the Atlanta Hawks’ plan, it could be accomplished in upcoming weeks.
