Lou Williams Mentioned As Possible Lakers’ Trade Target

Lou Williams, Lakers, NBA Rumors
NBA Analysis Network

The Los Angeles Lakers are one team that everyone is keeping an eye on ahead of the NBA trade deadline. While most of the rumors surrounding the team are Russell Westbrook related, there are smaller trades that are much more likely. One name that has been suggested as a potential trade target is Atlanta Hawks veteran guard Lou Williams.

No fan will look at Williams as the sexy target for the Lakers. However, he is exactly the kind of player that could be acquired for a cheap cost and could play a big role off the bench for Los Angeles.

Throughout his career, Williams has been a lethal bench scorer. He may be aging, but he is still more than capable of scoring the basketball. Making the move back to Los Angeles would likely be of interest to Williams as well.

Bleacher Report suggested that Williams could be a “sneaky” trade target for the Lakers ahead of the deadline.

Making a potential return to Los Angeles, Lou Williams would be an intriguing option. He’s struggled with the Hawks this season, but he was an important part of the Clippers just a year ago and could provide some instant offense off the bench.

So far this season with the Hawks in 32 games, Williams has averaged 6.8 points per game to go along with 1.7 assists and 1.6 rebounds. He has shot 38.3 percent from the floor and knocked down 30.9 percent from the three-point line. Those numbers don’t look great, but a move to a contender like the Lakers might spur a bounce-back second half of the year.

At 35 years of age, Lou Williams is in the latter stage of his career. His opportunity to compete for a title as a contributor is quickly coming to an end. Joining the Lakers would give him exactly the chance that he is looking to find.

Playing for the Hawks hasn’t been fun this season. Atlanta simply has not played well, nor have they given Williams a consistent role. If a team like the Lakers comes calling, a trade involving Williams could likely be pulled off.

Expect to hear a ton of rumors about the Lakers as the NBA trade deadline continues to draw closer. Williams may not end up being moved, but Los Angeles would be an intriguing destination.
