Thaddeus Young
Thaddeus Young is another veteran who could fit into a win-now scheme. That is not what he is getting with the San Antonio Spurs, who are looking to build around their young core. He is a respected veteran that can provide not only a helpful locker room presence, but brings plenty of helpful attributes to a team.
Young was originally sent to San Antonio from the Chicago Bulls when they acquired DeMar DeRozan. It was clear from the start that Young was not a long-term piece in San Antonio and this could be the deal they get him out of town.
A trade involving the Suns and Spurs for Young seems like a natural fit and was actually something that was discussed before the 2021-22 season began. The Suns did not have a first-round pick included in their offer and that was a sticking point for the Spurs—resulting in a deal not getting done.
For the Phoenix Suns, Young would be the perfect big man coming off the bench to provide a spark. He would bring further defensive versatility alongside Mikal Bridges and Chris Paul. From a lineup standpoint, Young can serve as a small ball five and help a switch-everything scheme along with offer some playmaking.
