Golden State Warriors

Current Record: 33-13, Last 10: 4-6

The recent struggles of the Golden State Warriors are a bit surprising, but a lot of what they are experiencing right now is midseason burnout, especially given all the celebrating they have already done as a franchise.

Not only did Steph Curry breaking the all-time three-point record seem to take a lot out of the Warriors, but Klay Thompson’s grand return after not playing since the 2019 NBA Finals has seemed to cause some emotional burnout as well.

Not to mention, since the start of January, 8 of the Golden State Warriors’ 12 games have been against teams with a winning-record and 7 of these games have been on the road.

The rest of the season, the Warriors have the 8th easiest remaining strength of schedule, according to Tankathon, and they will get plenty of chances to beat up on bottom-tier teams like the Rockets and Magic.

It is a little concerning to see the Golden State Warriors’ supporting cast struggling, but another key reason why they have not looked like the championship contenders they looked like early on this season is because Draymond Green is out with a calf injury.

Without Draymond, the Warriors are 5-7 this season compared to being 28-6 with him, according to StatMuse. 12 games is a small sample size, but this team really struggles without Draymond Green and that is understandable seeing as he is the front-runner right now to win Defensive Player of the Year.

Excuses should not be made up for a team that has Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, Andrew Wiggins and one of the deepest benches in the league, but Golden State has had a lot on their plate as of late.

There should be no long-term concerns with the Golden State Warriors right now and as we head into February, this team should begin turning on the jets as they head towards the finish line of the regular season.
