Does this trade make sense for the New Orleans Pelicans?

If they can get a ton of value for Brandon Ingram, trading him is not the worst move the New Orleans Pelicans can make, but they really have no reason to want to try and leverage Ingram this season.

He is their best player on the floor right now and even when Zion Williamson returns, Ingram will continue being their No. 1 option on the offensive end of the floor. Ever since he was traded to New Orleans from Los Angeles for Anthony Davis, Brandon Ingram has really made a name for himself and he is the face of this Pelicans franchise.

For years now, the Pelicans have seemed to be stuck in an endless cycle of torment when it comes to trades. They always seem like they are the team that is “selling” talent and they never are truly getting better.

New Orleans did this with Chris Paul in 2011, they did so with Anthony Davis in 2019 and they did so last year with Jrue Holiday. Trading away Brandon Ingram would be yet another move to continue this bad cycle for the Pelicans, which is why they need to try and be “buyers” for once in trade talks.

Plus, it is very hard to see where John Collins would fit into the equation in New Orleans when Zion Williamson returns since Jonas Valanciunas is not going anywhere anytime soon.

The Pelicans have no reason to want to trade Brandon Ingram right now and if they did, they could definitely get more value somewhere else other than from Atlanta.
