Does this trade make sense for the Atlanta Hawks?
Leveraging John Collins and De’Andre Hunter, as well as a protected first-round pick from Charlotte, for Brandon Ingram definitely makes sense for the Atlanta Hawks.
Not only is Ingram a better scorer than both Collins and Hunter, but he can fill the void left behind by both of these players. Being both a small-forward and power-forward at times, Brandon Ingram could move around the floor as a “positionless” player next to Trae Young in this offense, and moving Collins gives Onyeka Okongwu more playing time.
Okongwu was drafted in the first round last season and really has come on as of late with Clint Capela being out. Since the start of January, the young big man is averaging 9.7 points, 6.6 rebounds, 1.8 blocks, and is shooting 78.3% from the floor.
Getting Onyeka Okongwu more playing time could really help advance this Hawks team during the second half of the season. Not to mention, Atlanta recently drafted Jalen Johnson in the first round as well, so it is hard to see John Collins being with the team long-term.

The Hawks already thought about trading Collins and Reddish to the 76ers for Ben Simmons prior to sending Reddish to the Knicks this season, which is why they should have no problem turning their attention to moving Collins for Ingram.
