Does this trade make sense for the Los Angeles Lakers?

Giving up two second-round picks in 2023 and 2025 puts a dent in the Los Angeles Lakers’ total draft capital over the next several years, but draft picks do not do anything for this franchise.

As long as LeBron James is on this team, they are in “championship mode”, which is why young assets do not help this team whatsoever. Given that Kent Bazemore and DeAndre Jordan have been borderline useless for the Lakers this season, it should not come as a surprise if Los Angeles looks to move one or both of them at the trade deadline for any type of value.

Bryn Forbes is not going to solve the Lakers’ problems and make them a certified championship contender, but he can provide more stability than they currently have in the backcourt and he is a reliable perimeter shooting threat.

In 40 games with the San Antonio Spurs so far this season, Forbes is shooting 41.7% from three-point range. Only one player (min. 50 attempts) is shooting above 40% from deep this season for the Lakers and that is Malik Monk.

By adding Bryn Forbes, the Los Angeles Lakers can not only expand their offensive game, but open up space on the floor for LeBron, Westbrook and Davis to take advantage of one-on-one opportunities.

With Forbes on the floor, teams will have to respect him as a shooter and if they do not, then James and Westbrook will have a field day hitting him for wide-open three-point opportunities.
