How This Trade Impacts Philadelphia 76ers
It would be fair to question if this trade package from the Orlando Magic meets the standard that the Philadelphia 76ers have set. Daryl Morey has been adamant about what they are looking for in return and this might not fit the bill.
The 76ers aren’t getting an All-Star back, which makes it all the more peculiar that they aren’t getting some draft compensation along with Jonathan Isaac, Cole Anthony and Terrence Ross.
Isaac and Anthony have immense potential, but the 76ers are looking for more of an established, impact player. No one knows when Isaac will return to the court, as he has been sidelined for more than two years now. When healthy, he could be an impact two-way player, but his health is a major question mark.
Anthony is breaking out and emerging as a leading scoring guard, but the 76ers have their own breakout player from the 2020 NBA Draft in Tyrese Maxey. How much would Anthony really help as he could be redundant with Maxey already cementing himself as the starting point guard?

Ross would step right into the rotation and help bolster the second unit. He can get hot from the floor instantly and provides a scoring punch. That is a nice addition to the trade package from Philadelphia’s perspective, but this package overall would likely fall short of their asking price.
Morey has bided his time this long, it would be hard to imagine him accepting a trade offer like this one from the Magic. Unless a third team gets involved that is willing to part ways with a superstar-esque player, it is hard to imagine Simmons ending up in Orlando.
